Dogecoin After DOGE Rallied 100%: Do Not Ride The FOMO

[ELI5] Extracting Privkeys from QT/Core

We have a constant stream of people coming back after abandoning Dogecoin and the sub in 2014 when the price fell. These people all have old versions of QT and are now basically trying to recover their coins, presumably to cash out and abandon us again. This is causing strain for the network, as far more people are trying to leech blocks than seed them.
The thing is, none of this is necessary. Especially if you're just going to dump coins. With resources such as https://coinb.in/#settings all you need are your private keys, and you can create, sign and broadcast transactions yourself. No client required, let alone one as resource-hungry as QT.

"So, how do I get my keys?"

First of all, lets talk about data management. The overwhelming majority of coins are not lost through theft, especially direct theft of wallets (as distinct from wholesale thefts/scams/implosions like Moolah, GAW, MtGox, Cryptsy, and even our own beloved Dogetipbot). Most coins are lost because people forget about their wallets and do silly things like reformat hard drives, lose passwords and so on.
So, everyone should have a wallet list. Here is a sample bit of HTML that gives you a page with two columns of wallets, one for local wallets you would withdraw coins to, the other the third-party wallets you would deposit coins to third parties through (do note that many services use temporary addresses generated for deposits which expire after 24h or so). A page like this is how I manage my 100+ wallets, and I have copies on my network and hidden online. Such a page makes it easy to at least keep track of all your wallets, for a trivial amount of work to set up.

 Sample - Twitter Fr DFXXz9gq3WkgJaHn9tXRChMhFQcwm4Y251 To DByYgzd4ec5Ku9vPag8XqoBfyRpsoj8Xs3 @TipDoge Sample - Backslash Fr DSDyv83VC1QtEnmJ4ATKFn5Sw3iC12VLmX To D9MsxSyJe5Mq7fWFRpC7zQQt1gexHccN4w Backslash To DJ3GL68kw8vh99RvxnEmQKE8A3cWRoEEqo Backslash Faucet Sample - Block.io To DE5QamzWVnxK2HmCS61cUsrn9iwgTArunU Block.io

"OK, great, so now I have a list of my wallets. Now what?"

Now you're going to need the private keys for each of those wallets. Obviously you're not going to store these in a public place though. So you will need a separate file, which can just be plain text. Copy each of those addresses into it.
Now go ahead and fire up QT. If you haven't synced it in 3 years, its going to take forever, but that doesn't matter. You don't actually need the blockchain for this, so you don't have to wait for it to catch up.
Open up the console which is in the Help menu. Then give the command dumpprivkey with the wallet address you want the key to. Then use the up-arrow key to bring that command back, replace the address with the next one, and keep going until you have them all.
It will look something like this:
13:05:18 Welcome to the Dogecoin RPC console. Use up and down arrows to navigate history, and Ctrl-L to clear screen. Type help for an overview of available commands. 13:11:06 dumpprivkey D9xDcRthB6XP4vRGqiyKdDfVJ7CWhYuBBi 13:11:06 6KEcssuq1wWUrFVmMF8yDxHuAdQMiRezz53zDxADLmyoXnix7iM 13:12:00 dumpprivkey DUDARNrGHVTFcCgriwRWgDQJPKDuDQr9jg 13:12:00 6JNk6NNFZcr49fbsD2jcTfTxFLjJKq9DHQ5JU8CYeZ2Cz6JdKMY 13:12:25 dumpprivkey DG6xnwCT6BXePaySqU85XocobZmhbJczQH 13:12:25 6JNXFv95Mp9SzehHw9jojjdxHRNPeh77qCsRbaNwJZMp9MKCAu3
Yes, those are real wallets. But don't bother trying to steal my coins, I just generated them on https://walletgenerator.net/ and they're empty.
That's basically it. All you need to do is add some descriptions of what the wallets are, pretty up the format to your liking, and save copies in multiple, secure places, including printed out.

Remember, if you lose your keys, OR someone else sees them, you lose your coins!

If those were my real wallets above, you could use the keys and spend my coins. So obviously, don't let anyone else, especially annoying little brothers, get their grubby hands on them. But also make sure they can be discovered if anything happens to you. That's why the printed copies... nobody is going to go trolling through your porn or warez collection on the offchance there's something valuable in there. But they will look in your safe or wherever you store other important documents. Just be sure to leave a note as to what they are and how to use them. Remember the woman who came here a couple years ago who had found a USB stick with 110 BTC in a locked wallet.dat on it from her dead husband? I sometimes wonder if she ever got the money. Don't be her. Or him.

"OK, great. Now I have my keys. What now?"

Well, you can spend coins using https://coinb.in/#settings from any wallet you have the keys to. First step is to choose the network. Dogecoin (mainnet) obviously. Then go to Transaction in the +New menu. Enter your address and hit the Load button. It will pull in the first 100 transactions. Now enter the address to pay, and the amount.
Note the Transaction Fee box!
You want this amount to be zero. Depending on whether you're moving coins to another of your wallets to consolidate them (a very good idea.. go read the UTXO ELI5, which you will find a couple pages into https://www.reddit.com/dogecoin/comments/4yts6h/start_here_for_much_wallet_wow/ - Yes, I'm going to make you work for it, cos there's tons of useful stuff there you need to know), or paying someone else, you may want to select which inputs to use.
Once you're happy with the transaction, go ahead and submit it. You will now get a block of text, which is the raw, unsigned transaction. Copy this. Go to the Sign tab. Paste it. Add your private key and Submit to sign it.
After a little bit, you will get a signed transaction. Copy it. Go to the Broadcast tab, paste it and hit Submit.
That's it. It should go into the next block in a minute or two. Yes, even without paying a mining fee. Our network is so lightly loaded that there are no contention issues like the Bitcoin people have to put up with.

"That's it? So why do I need QT?"

You don't. The process above is all that's involved in spending coins. Everything else is window dressing. So there is no need to run QT, or any other client. Oh, and since you can download the site and run it locally (mostly offline), there is no security issue beyond the usual keyloggers/spyware that can compromise anything. And by knowing how to do this, you are much better protected from accidental loss than someone who blindly trusts black boxes they don't understand.
Oh, one final thing... if you really want to help the network by seeding rather than leeching, go ahead and run a full node. Instructions are in that link above. AND you may want to help seed the bootstrap file torrent from a couple of days ago. Just because YOU don't need it, doesn't mean others don't, right?

Of Wolves and Weasels - Day 49 - Such Memories

Hey all! GoodShibe here!
So, yesterday I started putting this thing together and WOW did you come out in droves to help! Thank you so much for sharing your ideas and memories. And thank you kindly to the mods for stickying that post!
In one day we reached 60% completion on a list of top 100 Memories and Achievements of Dogecoin! That's amazing! So many fantastic memories and accomplishments!
Which leads me to share some developments.
The title of this endeavor is now - unless someone comes up with something better:
Such Memories: The First 100 Days of Dogecoin
I'm going to be putting this together as a 100-ish paged commemorative book - for free in PDF, probably with some cost as a fancy, printed book (Sold as close to 'at cost' as I can get it -- slipstream- has recommended selling it at a small profit, with profits going toward charities or Dogecoin Foundation for charities, etc - thoughts?).
Artists, if you've got Dogecoin-themed artwork you want to see in this, please, put forward some links to hi-res CMYK copies and I'll do my best to fit it in.
Also! Let's find the funniest, best Dogecoin-related memes that we have put together so far and include them as well! :D)
We're also going to need a cover.
Any artists out there care to try their hand at designing a cover for this?
We'll put it to the community to vote for the one they like the most, and we'll include the others in the book somewhere :D) If you're an artist who submits to the project, you'll get full credit and promotion for your site inside the book (probably in a credits section at the back).
I also want to hear from the community - think up some interesting stories, maybe what got you into Dogecoin. What your fondest memories of Dogecoin are. These first 100 days have been an exciting rollercoaster of adventure... let's make that we never forget all the fun memories we've had together. If you have personal, fun pictures you'd like to share, fun, personal stories you want to see get into the book, then start working on them now, put them into the comments, keep them on hand!.

Profit switching pool that pays in Dogecoin!

I heard of this pool but it does not seem to have gathered as much publicity as I thought it would have on launch.
The pool is Mintpool.us. The idea is it is a profit-switching pool that pays in Dogecoin(essentially a multipool, but instead of giving you multiple coins to cash out manually or instead of being paid in Bitcoin, it pays in Dogecoin).
The reason this is really cool is that, by mining at this pool, you are creating DEMAND for Dogecoin. You are mining whatever altcoin is currently the most profitable and having the system automatically trade that for BTC, trade BTC for Dogecoin and pay in Dogecoin. This means that, on Cryptsy or whatever site this uses to exchange, it is adding buy orders. Since our coins worth is valued completely based on supply vs demand, having a increase in demand could potentially raise the price(or stop the slow drop) if enough people did this.
The downside is multipools have been proven to hurt the smaller altcoins(since we mine a lot of them and create more sell orders, ruining the other altcoins supply vs demand), but it would help Dogecoin. Do with this info what you will, but I will personally be giving this pool a try for a few days and seeing how much it ends up paying.
EDIT: To clarify, this is not my pool. I simply heard of it. If you wish to contact the owner, his twitter is @MintPool and his Reddit is ProAMALoL
EDIT2: Pool owner left a comment here. If you have any questions or concerns reply to him here
EDIT3: Pool owner mentions transparency, when that will be added and how to check for the time being

Of Wolves and Weasels - Day 189 - The State of Dogecoin

Hey all! GoodShibe... on Vacation!
Please enjoy this post by Guest Writer thistime1 and tip them well ;D)
Note: To tip them directly: +dogetipbot @thistime1 xxx doge verify
I have collected as much data as I could possibly find and contacted as many major players in the Dogecoin community as I could. I hope you all find this synthesis of information informative and worthy of discussion.
Anything that was announced in the few days before this was posted may not be included here, due to me working on this for the last 2 weeks! Sorry if I missed you.
I hope to do this again, maybe even as a quarterly report.
Please take all the information presented to you here and make your own conclusions about how important each piece of data is to YOUR view of Dogecoin.
Price
1 Doge = $0.00029 USD
Price would have to increase ~750% to be back at peak value ($0.0022/dogecoin).
COMPARED TO LITECOIN
1 LTC = $7.60 USD
Price would have to increase ~650% to be back at peak value ($48/litecoin).
Market Capitalization
7th of all digital currencies, ~$23 Million USD
Our market cap has been declining the last few months, most coin’s have. I am excited to know what our year-to-year price change will be as that is a better measure of change than the last 30 days.
For the past few days I have been trying to find a graph of the TOTAL market cap of all coins together over time.
I have a theory that not a lot of money is being put into cryptocurrencies at the moment, and the coins that go up in value are taking away value from others. What do you think?
I want to know if this is true, or if I am crazy. If that is somewhat true, there is a limit to how many coins will make it big.
I'd love to just see the total ALTCOIN market cap over time as well.
Hashrate/Halving
Hashrate = ~50GH/s
Oddly, this is about the same hashrate we had after the last halving! ASICs inbound…
I could not find what proportion of the SCRYPT hashrate we have over time, as that is the best measure of hashrate in relation to other coins.
I do have this though.
Litecoin’s hashrate is about 10 times larger than ours now.
The current block reward (recent halving) will create 90 Million Dogecoins/day or 38.7BTC at current prices.
This means that if ALL mined Dogecoins are sold every day they would only make up 3.8-7.5% off all transaction volume per day, which is around 500-1000BTC/day.
When the price stays the same, we can assume 250-500BTC of Dogecoins are bought or sold in that day. Therefore miners do not make up a large portion of the selling anymore, and they haven't for a while.
Another BIG assumption you have to make is that 38.7BTC cannot move markets. From my personally observations, the Cryptsy DOGE/BTC market controls the price of Dogecoin. I have watched the Chinese markets (BTC100, BTC38, BTER) respond to changes in price after they happen on Cryptsy. ~38BTC can have a HUGE impact on price if buy/sell walls are not there to support it.
We need more demand, but it is nice to have less pressure from miners anyways.
Liquidity is still much much higher with Litecoin though!
Transactions per Day
Dogecoin has more transactions per day Litecoin, and all other altcoins.
Sent from addresses
Dogecoin has more unique addresses sending coins per day than Litecoin, and all other altcoins.
Average Transaction Value
Average Litecoin transaction value for today was $9,380 USD.
Average Dogecoin transaction value for today was $122 USD.
Average Bitcoin transaction value for today was $3,250 USD.
http://bitinfocharts.com/comparison/transactionvalue-btc-ltc-doge.html Dogecoin is potentially being used exactly as intended. Lots of people sending small amounts of money to each other or things.
I am stunned that the AVERAGE person sending Litecoins that day, sent almost $10K.
That is 3x higher than Bitcoin. In fact, oddly, Litecoin always has a higher average transaction value than Bitcoin since the Bitcoin bubble in late 2013. Anybody know why?
We usually DO NOT have higher transaction volumes than Litecoin, but we do consistently have ~500-1000BTC/day that is transacted, putting Dogecoin in the top 5 most traded coins.
Dogecoin Address Growth
Dogecoin has also GAINED 14,653 positive addresses in the month of June, where Litecoin has LOST 33,875. (info from bitinfocharts and currency4world)
Wikipedia Statistics (http://stats.grok.se/)
Bitcoin traffic – Average ~9000 views in the last 90 days (highest 18614 views/day) – total views/90 days 819,193
Litecoin traffic – Average ~380 views in the last 90 days (highest 998 views/day) – total views/90 days 40,036
Dogecoin traffic – Average ~1200 views in the last 90 days (highest 8629 views/day) – total views/90 days 154,415
Circlejerking Statistics
Bitcoin recently surpassed 1 Yottahash, I believe we are up to almost 1 Yottajerk of circlejerking power. I am excited for a few years from now, when the QuantumJerk ASICs are released.
Every time I read someone calling /dogecoin a circlejerk I laugh, not because they are wrong, but because they are just stating the obvious.
Do you think there is someone in the corner of the room at NASA who just comments about how all they talk about is rockets and space?
If dreaming big and congratulating ourselves on our achievements is a circlejerk, then I guess it’s human to circlejerk. Every subreddit is a circlejerk, the only difference in /dogecoin is that you can get tips from circlejerking. (Is that prostitution?)
The main point of this section was to see how many times I could type circlejerk.
Foundation
The new Dogecoin Foundation is now a legal enitiy and will have a road map of working projects
Personally I would love to see someone from the Chinese Dogecoin community represented on the Foundation. They buy and sell a lot of Dogecoins Maybe just a liason position or something.
At the very least, during fundraisers, the Chinese community should be contacted to see if they want to help out!
Development
Dogecoin is the ONLY altcoin with the Core/Wallet/qt based off of Bitcoin 0.9. Dogecoin Core will be kept up to date and features from the Bitcoin Core will be adopted quickly. The devs are doing great so far, especially against coins with full-time PAID developers!
CrytoSaga
Unprecedented cryptocurrency modeling software will be written to test possible outcomes to changes in Dogecoin’s algorithm. Main candidates are PoS 2.0, Tendermint, and SIMD. To my knowledge, this has never been created before in all of cryptocurrency, and will definitely further highlight the abilities of Dogecoin’s development team.
A payment protocol is also being worked on.
Cryptiv
Dogetipbot
Twitch tipping with dogetipbot will go live soon! You can sign up to be invited to the beta, here.
After Twitch tipping goes live, there will be a huge announcement
I have followed what mohland and dvorwak have said about it, here.
Coingecko
Price might not be so encouraging at the moment, but stay faithful. Keep up the good work. Encourage more people to join. The community is something special. I have strong faith that it will be heading to the moon!
Coinplay.io

Suchlist
SnapCard
Buy ANYTHING in Dogecoins that is for sale online. Available in over 50 countries. Only BTC, LTC, DOGE, and XRP are supported.
WeSellDoges
Onarbor
The biggest new Onarbor feature announcement is ability to back and re-back works and reviews. This was the top request so we're glad to finally implement it. Coming soon will be more tailored feeds where we will allow people to follow creators that interest them (will allow TwitteFB/linkedin auth to find friends/colleagues).
What can Dogecoin do better?
Marketing
For a coin that has done some of the best marketing out there, we suck at getting major announcements across on multiple platforms.
I am hoping /dogecoin_pr will bring this up to par.
EXAMPLE:
51.54% of Dogecoin users are on Dogecoin Core 1.6.( http://bitinfocharts.com/dogecoin/)
Maybe merchants and such are not to keen on updating if it is not required, but maybe they just do not know about 1.7.
When 1.8 comes out, I would love to see a sticky thread on the subreddit, an announcement on the official Dogecoin Twitter and Facebook pages, an announcement on the front of the BitcoinTalk forum, as well as contacting cryptonews websites.
Dogecoin has a large social media presence and should be taking advantage of THAT!
Tipping
I am concerned that there are not that many external deposits made to everyone’s dogetipbot accounts. Until there are more tipping users, I fear that we may be only be tipping coins that were tipped to us in the first place. That is not the best way to build demand. I am hoping mohland has some data on this.
I strongly believe in the tipping economy and culture of Dogecoin, and personally, that is how I think we can best build demand. Until we have more tipping users, it is up to us to build that demand, and the work could pay off.
Dogecoin.com
I know you powerlemons is working on updating this, but the website is COMPLETELY MISSING a section on how to accept Dogecoin. This should be just as big as the other coloured sections!
ALSO
This should be added to the “Get Dogecoin” section at the bottom of the page.
I have tried to keep it updated as much as possible, but would love the community to notify me of any changes
COMMENTS
Josh Wise
“I have said this to a few people in the community but my two cents on this is to keep it fun, charitable, and stick to the fundamentals that made the community grow so much initially. My personal opinion (and I really have no clue what I am talking about) is that this community grew so fast because it was so much fun, anything seemed possible, everything seemed worth trying and there were not many negative undertones with anything. It seems like people are really getting wrapped up in a lot of negatives right now and that is never productive. The law of attraction will rule in the end and as long as people are positive- no matter the circumstance- the circumstance will become positive. I love this place and wish only the best for dogecoin and the community, and like I said, I have no clue as to all of the intricacies and the many moving parts past and present. Only my two cents on what I see (:
As far as upcoming projects- I am still working on some new shirts by popular demand. I would really love to either race the Dogecoin car in a few Superspeedway races next year, or try to raise money so that we can run the rear bumper all season. I am super thankful for all that has come of this and want to continue to help build the brand and awareness in any ways possible. A lot of that is really up to the community though and not me.”
Co-founder (BillyM2K aka Shibetoshi Nakamoto)
“A community that is having fun, building cool things, and coming together for great causes and fun causes alike is exceptionally more valuable than one that is trying desperately to create value by finger pointing, complaining, witch hunting, attempting to market useless features, and ultimately eating itself.”
thistime1 - High Anxiety Shibe
I hope you all learned something today. I tried really hard to make sure that was the case.
Who do I love?
It's 7:41AM EST and we've found 87.49% of our initial 100 Billion DOGEs -- only 12.51% remains until our period of Hyper-inflation ends! Our Global Hashrate is up from ~44 to ~47 Gigahashes per second and our Difficulty is up from ~708 to ~724.
I Hope you enjoyed today's Guest Post by thistime1!

To raise the price of doge we need to use it! (List of stores/exchanges that will accept doge!)

While I love donating and tipping, doge needs to be spent on goods and services to gain value.
Now I'm not saying we should stop tipping and donating, but we should also spend some more on goods and services! Let the doge flow!
And in the light of doge4water being funded I think we should give ourselves a little present too!! So it's time to buy with doge!
Note: I am not responsible for any experiences or transactions in any of these exchanges or stores. Nor am I affiliated with any of them.
Exchanges:
If you know of any others just PM me them and I will add them as soon as I can
Stores/Donation Sites:
This list is not comprehensive, if I missed anything PM me and I can add it.
Directory/Sites like Ebay or Craigslist:
Again this list is not comprehensive. If you have any more suggestions please PM me
(Some of the stores aren't listed but are on the directories and some sites are listed and on the directories, by the way)
And finally a video for you guys :).
To the moon fellow shibes!

The State of Dogecoin

STATE OF DOGECOIN
Preface:
I have collected as much data as I could possibly find and contacted as many major players in the Dogecoin community as I could. I hope you all find this synthesis of information informative and worthy of discussion.
Anything that was announced in the few days before this was posted may not be included here, due to me working on this for the last 2 weeks!
I wish I could have included EVERYTHING, but there is just too much to add that fits in one reddit post.
I hope to do this again, maybe even as a quarterly report.
Please take all the information presented to you here and make your own conclusions about how important each piece of data is to YOUR view of Dogecoin.
Price
1 Doge = 0.00029 USD
Price would have to increase ~750% to be back at peak value.
COMPARED TO LITECOIN
1 LTC = 7.60 USD
Price would have to increase ~650% to be back at peak value.
Hashrate = ~50GH/s
Development
Dogecoin is the ONLY altcoin with over a $1 Million USD market cap with the Core/Wallet/qt based off of Bitcoin 0.9.

“A community that is having fun, building cool things, and coming together for great causes and fun causes alike is exceptionally more valuable than one that is trying desperately to create value by finger pointing, complaining, witch hunting, attempting to market useless features, and ultimately eating itself.”

Humble DoubleCoin Bows at the Mighty Dogecoin Altar (Official DoubleCoin Purchase Ledger Starts Now, Here on /r/Dogecoin)

tl:dr DoubleCoin is an absurd digital coin, with exponential pricing, and a manually kept ledger of ownership.
Edit: The original post was way too long, so I deleted a bunch of it.
Earlier tonight I posted a technical question about how to link Bitcoin to Dogecoin, and helpful users like Im-probably-lying and caphits were eager to buy DoubleCoins, but didn't like the hassle of having to go to the DoubleCoin site, and were dealing with Cryptsy fees, etc.
Their enthusiasm helped me realize two things: 1) the DogeCoin subreddit is where the true digital coin pioneers are, because the people here are ready to have faith in a new crazy thing before anyone else does, and 2) the process of buying DoubleCoin needs to be easier.
--- Explanation of DoubleCoin ---
There are 50 DoubleCoins. DoubleCoin #1 is one satoshi (.00000001 Bitcoins). DoubleCoin #2 is two satoshis (.00000002 Bitcoins). After that, each DoubleCoin is twice the cost of the previous one. The last DoubleCoin is #50, which is 5,629,699.534 Bitcoins, or about $3.5 Billion dollars.
DoubleCoins are not fungible (i.e., interchangeable). When you buy a DoubleCoin, you own that particular coin #, and can then sell it to anyone else, for any value. But, the “Owner List” will be kept by hand, on this blog, so hopefully things don’t get too crazy.
To buy a DoubleCoin, post a comment on the DoubleCoin Website saying which # coin you want to buy
http://exponentialsatoshis.wordpress.com/
and then send the purchase amount want to one of the DoubleCoin wallets shown at the website.
(Dogecoin is accepted, but I can't post the address here.)
Once the coins have arrived, your name (or handle) will be listed as the “Owner” of the particular # of DoubleCoin that you own.
You can also post a website or Twitter handle there, if there is something you’d like to promote.

MAD Doge - Market Analysis 1/10/2014 (Afternoon Edition) Sell Doge - Make Money

"When you live life fast, there's only one thing left to do, that's crash."
Applicable even to Markets, when the market jumps up too severe, there will be a drop in price that will be a little shocking at first. These are only growing pains of a great currency. Before we jump into it, let's cover some news.

DOGECOIN GONE GLOBAL

A Bird in the Hand is worth 2 in the bush

Where is it heading?

I'd like to continue, but a lot is happening and this was written up 3 hrs ago, I'm posting now since Cryptsy stopped their Doge Exchange.
I wouldn't recommend pulling all your doges out since this may cause problems. Here is Cryptsy's response what likely occurred was too much awesomeness.

UPDATE: Dont Worry about your Doges, I removed some from Cryptsy and they all showed up, it's fine.

Apologies if this isn't up to our usual standard, I'm balancing work on improvements as well as trying to write 1-2 of these per day.

Nyancoins Megapost - Central Link Collection

Edit: Going to finally start an overhaul on this (April 23rd, 2016); it's been six months since the last edit. I'm going to go from current back, so there's going to be a gap between this top, new stuff and what's below until I finish the update.
I'm just going to have the last six months all shoved together into one large update here. There's weak categorization, but basically just think of it as a huge list. In general, the newer items will be higher within a given category than the older items. I apologize if I left anything out which people would like to see included. Some things I considered more of a temporary update than something relevant months later, but just PM me and I'll add anything requested!
We're currently in a quiet low point. Nothing catastrophic is happening, but we are relatively weak. I call it "the best nadir" because if this is as bad as it gets, we're doing alright. The price is down to 4 satoshi now, which is the lowest sustained price since the beginning of the revival. I'm going on a year behind my original goal for releasing NYAN2, still stuck on a new build computer (alternately time and energy to cripple together a build system out of what I have available).
One major new element: I've set a goal for us to have a mission to visit the site of Apollo 17 in twenty years. This is basically a new dimension. For the first ten years, I envision this as a purely "paper program", doing research on past space programs, in particular Mercury through Apollo, but any and all launch platforms and spacecraft which have been done. We may additionally seek to gain additional education (for instance, I would like aerospace engineering and material science undergraduate degrees at a minimum; we also are going to need experienced test pilots).
Space Program Initial Vision: [NYAN 2035] We must send a mission to visit the site of the Apollo 17 plaque on the Moon
Also, I've replaced the previous "Nekonauts of the Month" competition with a "Who Wants to be a Nillionaire?". The major difference is that rather than relying upon me to track everything, the expectation is that Nekonauts will sign up and self-report accomplishments.
Nyan Projects
[Hype] Browser based MMORPG accepting Nyancoins for member items: KojoSlayer's latest foray into nyan video game development! I've seen an early preview and it reminds me of a primitive Runescape (meant as a compliment)

Want more NYAN? Faucet Mrai and trade to me for NYAN (and then hodl!): What is says on the tin. The faucet is down temporarily at time of this writing, but it'll be back up before I update this section likely. The price offered there is low (mailing list mentioning 200-300 satoshi currently; my offer is worth about 2 satoshi currently); I would consider higher, but probably wouldn't pay those apparent market rates (no actual exchange yet).

Catch-all category. Okay, this category got out of hand. I should do a second round later and break this out into a few different ones.
The best argument I've heard so far for keeping the 1MB cap in Bitcoin - I still think it would have been better for Bitcoin to grow, but this is the strongest argument for its stagnation in capacity that I've seen.
[conceptual design] How we should expect 100,000 transactions in a minute (or second?) to be handled - This is about the idea that we should expect to be able to handle large loads without crashing. Pretty basic. Related to an /cryptocurrency post I'd made: 100,000 Transactions Per Second: How Do We Get There?, which gives a very high-level overview of one way to reach high throughput capacity using blockchains.
Interesting cryptocurrency to try: raiblocks, protocol without transaction fees or block rewards - I think Raiblocks will be a valuable "companion coin" to Nyancoins ultimately. I don't know how exactly that'll work, but I believe that good cryptocurrency communities should make alliances. If nothing else, we can be valuable to each other as the "loyal opposition", critics who want to see success.

Hodling Update: 30% - I haven't done the math recently. I'm probably within 5% of this, but I don't know if I've gone up or down. I haven't given away a whole lot, but I have put no new money into Nyancoins for months from being so broke. I've still gained some millions more from when my 5 satoshi bids got hit though.
[finance] Up? Down? Horizontal? - Considering 30 - It's pretty sad how far we are from 30 satoshi now (4 satoshi at the moment). I believe we'll get it back ultimately, but the revival certainly hasn't had the financial success I'd hoped.

[financial] NYAN vs DOGE as a long-term store of value - What it says. I believe that the lower supply inflation and smaller supply of NYAN will ultimately lead to NYAN trading above DOGE (currently trading at less than 10:1).
[finance] [stats] [gaming] Breaking the Bank: Risk-of-Ruin, Dice Games, and Basic Logic - I'm pretty proud of this one. By having more money than god, and a screwed up default max bet rule, I was able to beat the house. 8-)

I think I'm done with this update (at least getting the new content in; I have not changed the old text and content, which is everything below).
Since I can only have one thing stickied at a time, but there are a lot of different things going on, I've switched over to having one main link collection post. And this is it.
I'll update this periodically (I'll try to do a major update once a month) and might replace it at some point. It'll have general discussion of the context behind why these various threads are significant.
I'm doing August and September together for Nekonaut awards and updates here since I got a bit busy at work. NYAN2 is released as a first-draft, but I haven't built it yet (nor done final changes and fixes). I need a computer with more RAM than what I have available to me now. However, I'm quite satisfied with the performance of NYAN1.2, ancient though it may be, so I'm not treating it as an emergency.
The biggest news is that we are now listed on cryptopia.co.nz ! They are a great community and provide better ecosystem support than most exchanges: they include a pool and explorer along with the exchange. And their exchange has a lot of basepairs, with NYAN/BTC, NYAN/UNO, NYAN/DOGE, and NYAN/DOT being relatively active, NYAN/LTC being quiet, and the other two (popularcoin and feathercoin) being unfamiliar to me and generally unused.
Oh, also, when I've taken a look at it, the Nyanchain seems to be running smoothly. I haven't been watching too closely, but the status page is usually showing all green. I especially like seeing the high number of connections (generally close to 30). [Comment from July version; still accurate. I should get automated metrics on the Nyanchain someday, but in the meantime, it seems to be moving pretty smoothly anecdotally.]

Classic Posts
Why Nyancoin will hit $1/NYAN (and much more). We're going to space, and you're invited! - This is an infamous post by americanpegasus. I believe it was actually someone mocking him in /bitcoin by linking to this which first made me aware that Nyancoins existed, and got the idea in my head that it was a deadcoin (from seeing a post/comments on the sub at the time which claimed that). So the dream of this post was actually so bold that it brought it back from the grave, because it was bold enough to be mocked, and that mockery eventually led me to investigate it, and that investigation led me to fall in love.
1Ɲ >= 1Đ - This is a vision I have, that we shall rise above DOGE. This is not a dig against DOGE but merely a statement about the growth I expect to see us have. There are about 500x as many Dogecoins as there are Nyancoins, so even if we remain significantly smaller we can easily pass their unit price. We've done so briefly previously but are currently below this mark.
We choose to go to the Moon - This is my manifesto about why I am doing this. Cribbed from JFK's moon speech, it is meant to express that it is because of, not in spite of, the challenges that we face that I am here. This started out as a personal challenge. While I certainly would like to get rich off of this, the reason I chose to pursue this is because if we do then, then we're awesome badasses that people can be impressed by.
The original Nyancoins intro video - wasn't really sure where to categorize this
Older stories
I'll move stories down here as they get older. For now it's the block stoppage stuff as that seems to have stabilized.
Holy shit, 22 hours since the last block. At this rate, I'm going to have to start solving hashes by hand... - This was my post about the block stoppage.
Difficulty has spiked again; if we hit another stall I'll try the transaction fee trick again - Another block stoppage, and a record of my attempt to use the same trick to break it loose again (transaction fee incentive).
I'm ready to give up on life; in which coinaday finally has his full-blown mental breakdown. So long, and thanks for all the rainbows! - My personal mental breakdown. Just listed here because it made an impact. Also, it was an amazing response from the community which meant a lot to me.
Fuck it; encore une fois - My reaction afterward, saying that I'll give things another shot.
GFS
Disregard the below: GFS has been down for a few months and probably won't be back. At one point, this project had been offered to me, and perhaps I should have taken it, but I felt like I was already heavily committed here and couldn't take that on as well. It's a shame that no one managed to keep it running though. I really liked the idea.
Disregard the below: it's back down again, last I checked. Not sure what to link on that. The new bot got mildly political again / referenced being a shadowbanned user, and bam. I'm not sure where this is going to go now, if anywhere. Although I suppose the on-blockchain stuff isn't affected, and I'd wager go1dfish will do something again.
/GetFairShare will be attempting another distribution today; go try it out! - GetFairShare is back! Go get free money!
I don't really understand what's going on, but apparently the bot used for /GetFairShare got banned - Some background on GFS having gone down
I think that this will continue to be useful as we gain a larger and larger volume of posts and help me not have to worry about burying something significant posted a couple weeks back or something.
Also, right now I'm just gleaning from the frontpage, but I'll add in some great classic posts too.
Let me know in the comments if there are other posts you'd like to see added here.

Coyote Wallstreet going crazy over Dogecoin

Today I noticed something crazy, Coyote WallStreet is going to pay 10cents-12 cents more than cryptsy has them listed as.
To me this seems like a sign that we are on our way to the launchpad to moon.
According to Banc of Bitcoin Daily News, Wall Street Investor P. Kerry McDonnell Is Trying To To Push Dogecoin To $300 USD

A treatise on the economics and future viability of the Dogecoin

So Dogecoins have a limited supply (100 billion) The difficulty of mining doge coins increases at an exponential rate if we stay at the same number of miners. At first Doges are cheap and easy to get, however as time goes on the easy blocks are mined and we progress to harder blocks that yield less Doge's. The reason total supply of Bitcoins increased at a relatively steady predictable rate was because new miners came in and equipment was upgraded to offset the increased difficulty of mining.
The base of Doge coins is never reduced it only ever increases. So as the supply of Doges accumulate prices will fall without a greater increase in demand. So this is my thesis gentlemen we need to get the ROA (Rate of Adoption) of Dogecoins to increase faster than the ROI (Rate of increase) in the base supply of Dogecoins in order to increase price (and our collective wealth). Otherwise the price will drop and we will be sad Shibas. If we want our Dogecoins to be worth something we need to collectively get them listed on every exchange and give them as much exposure as possible.
Here are two graphs showing the number of unique bitcoin addresses and total Bitcoin price. Although they don't quite mirror you can see that price spikes when number of unique bitcoin addresses spike. When price spikes it also happens to bring more media attention which further increases the number of new users. It builds on its self.
So what we need to do is we need to get the Doge ball rolling. Give it legitimacy and make people think that it's worth something because that's the only way to drive up price. We have to give it a form of legitimacy as a way to store and grow wealth like what Bitcoin is currently experiencing. Getting it listed on official exchanges would be an excellent start but news articles and reddit posts on other subreddit's help tremendously as well. I think we have a better chance than most other startup crypto currencies because it's a crypto currency with personality.

Dogeparty Pulse #11 - Happy Holidoge

Much excitement! With the holiday season upon us, what better time than now to get an amazing insight into the world of cryptocurrencies and gaming!? It’s not too late to participate in cryptocurrency games and tokens, and to give or receive the gift that keeps on giving. Happy Holidoge to all and to all good Doge!

Weekly General Update

A great Dogeparty Hangout was held last week with several participants. Continue reading below for an overview and summary of the participants and their topics, as well as the time intervals for each. The next Dogeparty Hangout #11 will be announced once it’s scheduled so that you may ink it on your calendar.
Dogeparty Hangout #10 -Making game tokens and items with Dogeparty
Participants/Topics:
0:15 - 0:29 Wendell introduces the participants
0:30 - 8:02 Jens discusses the Dogecoin Foundation and bridging the Dogecoin and Dogeparty communities. Dogecoin Foundation has been in a difficult situation in recent months because of U.S regulations, which has made it difficult for the Dogecoin Foundation to do what it set out to do, which is fundraising for charities. The Foundation has been trying to hash out how it can work, as well as cryptocurrencies in general, in order for them to be used for social good. Jens continues on to discuss his perspective on Dogecoin versus Bitcoin, and how these technologies can be used for the community instead of just as financial services.
8:03 - 9:55 Wendell provides brief overview of what games, game tokens, and game items are. A token can be something you own. For example, a ticket that allows you entry to an event, a stock token that can provide you with ownership in a company, or something of redeemable value. The various blockchain platforms have brought about the possibility of anyone being able to issue a secure, reliable token for low cost. He continues to provide examples of how a game token could be used within games before segueing into the next speaker.
9:56 - 13:53 Michael is working on a project called CryptoVerbs. He provides a visual presentation in the video containing a checklist of crypto-tokens and how they may be used on a more granular level. He suggests tokenizing user actions within a game. There are so many verbs and actions that we use in games on a daily basis which are being looked into in order to tokenize these actions. It’s part of a larger project to bootstrap this functionality. You can look at it as a gamification layer on top of games themselves to make the game more interesting, and more specifically, when used in role playing games or card games.
13:54 - 19:35 Gareth is working on a blockchain-based card game named Deckbound. The card games are in the style of Magic The Gathering and Hearthstone. Deckbound leverages blockchain technology for various parts of the game environment. In the video, Gareth provides a visual presentation of Deckbound and bitbind.io. Bitbind provides an open/public API service used to tag Bitcoin transactions on the Bitcoin blockchain so that anyone, theoretically, could use bitbind to play games using Deckbound cards. Complex systems can also be used leveraging bitbind’s APIs. All data is published, however the bitbind service is there to provide a convenient interface. All APIs will also be public. Gareth continues on to explain in detail how transactions items may be used.
19:36 - 24:48 Shaban, from EverdreamSoft, introduces Spells of Genesis, the company’s second game. The first game was a traditional trading card game named Moonga. EverdreamSoft was at the beginning of the free-to-play game model in the app store. In Moonga (similar to Magic The Gathering), the player trades a card for real money, so one game item can have a big value for players. Their new, innovative direction is to put all of the game assets on the blockchain. Spells of Genesis is a new game that takes the Moonga universe, but mixing arcades and card games. The crypto-economy is integrated in the game story and in the game itself, not only for payments, but as a whole economy. Cards can be traded in a decentralized manner, or purchased and playable in the game. The user is master of their asset which can be traded or sold on any blockchain platform. Shaban provides a live demo of the game.
25:40 - 30:55 Wendell discusses Vizor, one of three projects behind the reason why the Dogeparty platform was created. Vizor is like the YouTube of VR. He provides a visual presentation in the video. On Vizor there are various different types of web-based experiences (Web GL), such as Oculus Rift, and these experiences are similar to a YouTube experience. These are all real-time rendering. Vizor Create is a tool that is like a visual programming editor. VR worlds can be built and run in real-time, different graphics can be loaded in, and it can be published back to the main Vizor. VR worlds of any sort can be created, ranging from a game to a non-interactive experience. A VIZR token will sell things like texture, 3D objects, sounds, shaders, and all types of various modules that will be able to accept a Vizor token. The goal is to create a complete VR ecosystem.
30:56 - 35:10 Jef discusses using blockchain technology for crowdfunding. Swarm likes crypto-fuel application apps - projects that have their own coin that is used, or consumed in the app. He discusses which industries should be focused on in order to get the current status of applications transformed - i.e. existing businesses or new businesses. Looking at new businesses and games in particular, Kickstarter presently has 466 live crowdsales for games. Some are offline games, however the vast majority are video games. Adding crypto-tokens to the crowdsale of these games will provide value by, for example, raising funds by selling the coin and creating incentive.
35:11 - 38:48 Tom introduces Koinify, a crowdfunding platform. Koinify was started primarily to focus on games, initially to convert these centralized games into a token economy. Their most recent project is Gems. The advantage of using these crypto-tokens is bootstrapping - an easy way to distribute the tokens to a mass population that creates incentive. Additionally, there’s interoperability where people can exchange tokens in different markets. A token system is interchangeable by nature.
39:12 - 48:23 J-Dog provides a visual presentation and discusses the DogepartyChain.info service he created to help the community visualize the Dogeparty blockchain and data flowing across it. Users can view the network (transactions, burns, etc.), browse assets across the network, view information about individual assets, and see address balances. APIs were written to help the community to use, and easily digest the Dogeparty platform. The API’s can be used by developers in a number of ways, including to check if an address holds a specific token/asset and how much. API results can be easily customized to fit a developer’s preferences. All of this information is valuable within a game because it allows developers to easily interact with the Dogeparty blockchain and do things like verify if a user (address) has a token (asset) in their wallet, and enable or disable game functionality based on the results.
48:52 - 49:48 A question received from the audience included inquiring why the DEX is not being worked on while other projects continue to be developed. Wendell addressed that a new developer is presently being brought into the team to continue work on the DEX. As Dogeparty was initially created for the purpose of supporting developer projects, the DEX may have taken a bit of a lower priority. However, a developer is spinning up to work on this now.
49:49 - 53:32 Mike from Galactic Systems introduced the topic of in-game governance. They’re a virtual world or a platform for any type of game or social interaction. In addition to building the Galacticoin crypto-system and implementing governance functions within the blockchain (starting with the user registration and transactions), Galactic Systems is building in digital rights management for user created content as license keys within the blockchain. The company is expanding into deed registration for virtual land, like in Second Life, and a dispute resolution system for an in-world court system. The goal is to decentralized governance into the blockchain, so that users govern themselves and resolve their differences in a decentralized way. Avatars will essentially have a Bill of Rights.
53:40 - 54:35 Conclusion and final words from the meeting participants.
